There is a nerve called median nerve which originates from the spinal cord and runs through the hands and terminates at the fingers. This median nerve controls sensation and movement of the first three fingers of our arm. The carpal tunnel or the carpel canal is a structure (gap between the bones) located at the wrists, through which the median nerve enters the hands. The gap through which the nerve passes is surrounded by bones and ligaments. When these tissues get inflamed, or if the gap is reduced due to some mechanical defects, it results in compression to the median nerve and leads to a condition known as carpel tunnel syndrome.
Ayurvedic treatment for CTS involves treatments like such as Pizchil, Ela Kizhi Swedana, Navara Kizhi, Mamsa, Abhyanga, etc. to reduce numbness and pain. Generally it takes 1-2 months of time to get back to normalcy but to some chronic cases, it lasts 4-6 months.
